The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 4 could outperform the Galaxy S22 Ultra in terms of performance

A more powerful Snapdragon

We haven’t seen much in the way of Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 4 leaks yet, with the existing information pointing to a device that will be fairly similar to the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 3. But now we’ve seen something that might make it worthwhile to upgrade.

The phone is listed on Geekbench as having a Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 Plus chipset, according to leaker @UniverseIce.

This is a chipset that has yet to be disclosed, although it is expected to be an update to the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1, which is currently utilised by most Android flagships, including the Samsung Galaxy S22 series in select markets.

The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 4 could be more powerful than the Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra if it receives that chip.

And in places like the UK, where the Galaxy S22 was released with an arguably inferior Exynos 2200 chipset, the boost will be even more significant – Samsung normally uses the same chipset for all of its foldable phones, so we expect the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 Plus to be used everywhere.

However, the Galaxy Z Flip 4 is listed here with 8GB of RAM, so not every area of performance will be an upgrade over the Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra. That’s the same beginning amount as the S22 Ultra, but since Samsung’s top flagship can have up to 12GB of RAM, we’re not sure what we’ll get.

It’s also worth noting that, while this test is for the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 4, we expect the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4 to have the same chipset, making it a strong phone as well.

The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 4 has suddenly become intriguing

Given that the design and screens of the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 4 are said to be nearly identical to those of the Z Flip 3, we’ve been sceptical. There have been suggestions for minor camera and battery improvements, but nothing particularly exciting.

The only true rumour we’d heard about the phone was that it might be reduced in price, as a cheaper price could help bring the foldable into the mainstream.

But since it’s both less expensive than the Galaxy Z Flip 3 and one of the most powerful phones of the year, the Galaxy Z Flip 4 becomes a phone worth paying attention to.

However, nothing we’ve heard about it has been confirmed, so take everything with a grain of salt; however, this could be one of Samsung’s most amazing phones of 2022.
